Kelly Beckett has been named principal of Scott County Middle School. Beckett currently serves as assistant principal at Royal Spring Middle where she gained experience with the Teacher Effectiveness & Leadership Network, leading Professional Learning Communities, and directing the school’s mentoring and safe schools programs.
She was previously a teacher at RSMS, worked in both Fayette and Franklin counties, and served as the executive director of the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies.
“The past success of Scott County Middle School is evidenced by consistently high levels of student achievement,” stated Superintendent Billy Parker. “Under Mrs. Beckett’s leadership, the SCMS community is primed for an innovative and dynamic future built on a positive culture and filled with additional opportunities for students.”
"I am truly honored and humbled to be the next principal of Scott County Middle School,” Beckett said. “I look forward to being a servant-leader that builds upon the excellence and traditions of SCMS.”
Beckett earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Midway University and an education specialist degree in Supervision of Instruction & Curriculum, Director of Pupil Personnel & Principalship from Morehead State University.
Beckett is a published author, the 2022 Scott County Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year, a recipient of the Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching Award, a multi-year nominee for Valvoline Kentucky Teacher of the Year, and winner of the Earle Clements Innovation in Education Award. She has served on the Midway University Advisory Board and as a volunteer with the YMCA.
Kelly Beckett is married to her best friend, Drew. She has two adult children, two bonus children, and two grandchildren. The Becketts reside in Georgetown.
Principal Beckett will begin her tenure at SCMS in July upon the retirement of longtime principal Jennifer Sutton.
