Summer Nutrition Program: SUN Meals

Scott County Schools will offer free, hot meals to anyone age 18 and under as part of the Summer Nutrition Program. SUN Meals will be available in the school cafeteria at Southern Elementary School located at 1200 Fairfax Way in Georgetown from June 2-30, 2025.  

Hours of operation for breakfast are 8:30-9am daily, Monday through Friday.  Lunch will be served 11am-12:45pm.  The program will be closed on Thursday, June 19.

SUN Meals is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.  About 30 million children participate in the USDA’s school breakfast and lunch programs.  When school is out for summer, children still need access to healthy and nutritious meals.

Las Escuelas del Condado de Scott ofrecerán comidas calientes gratuitas a menores de 18 años como parte del Programa de Nutrición de Verano. SUN Meals estará disponible en la cafetería de Southern Elementary, ubicada en 1200 Fairfax Way, Georgetown, del 2 al 30 de junio de 2025.

Rowlett Named Director of Special Education

Harper Rowlett is the new Director of Special Education for Scott County Schools.  This is a homecoming for Rowlett who served as assistant director in this department for three years before taking a state coaching coordinator position with the Kentucky Department of Education.

Rowlett reflected on his new position, “I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and eager to work alongside the fantastic staff of Scott County Schools.  The district's collaborative spirit and commitment to do what is right for all students is evident, and I know that we will accomplish great things together.”

Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning Stephanie Emmons shares this sentiment.

“We are thrilled to welcome Harper Rowlett back to the Office of Student Learning as our new Director of Special Education,” remarked Emmons.  “His extensive experience and proven leadership have played a vital role in developing a strong, comprehensive special education program in Scott County.”

In his current position, Rowlett worked to develop a statewide coaching model in support of post-secondary transition student outcomes.  As Assistant Director of Special Education for Scott County Schools, he ensured compliance with federal and state regulations, designed and implemented a district-wide Individualized Education Program (IEP) compliance monitoring system, and created an on-boarding system for new special education teachers.

Rowlett holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology, and Director of Special Education certification, all from Murray State University.  He is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and is a Kentucky Leading, Educating, Advocating for Directors of Special Education (LEADS) Academy Scholar.  

He will start in his new position effective July 1, 2025.

 

Brandenburg Named Director of Maintenance

Greg Brandenburg has been selected as the Director of Maintenance for Scott County Schools.  Brandenburg started with Scott County Schools 30 years ago as a school custodian and has served as a team leader in the maintenance department for more than 20 years.

In his new role, Brandenburg will oversee facility maintenance and new and seasonal construction projects.  This department is responsible for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing throughout the district.  The buildings and grounds of Scott County Schools include more than two million square feet under roof and nearly 1000 acres.

“I am honored to accept the position of Director of Maintenance,” Brandenburg said.  “After 30 years in this department, it’s a privilege to step into this new role and continue serving this team and district.  It truly feels like family.”

Brandenburg will officially begin as Director of Maintenance on July 1 upon the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Dwayne Ellison.  Ellison reflected on his replacement in the maintenance department wishing Brandenburg continued success as he steps into this new leadership role.

“It is my honor to congratulate Greg Brandenburg on this well-earned promotion.  From starting as a kid right out of high school to now leading the department, his journey is a true testament to hard work and perseverance,” Ellison said.

Brandenburg earned grounds certification from the University of Kentucky and holds numerous certifications from the Kentucky School Plant Managers Association.  He is a 1993 graduate of Scott County High School.  

Allen Named Assistant Superintendent of Operations

Dr. Brent Allen has been named Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Scott County Schools.  Allen will continue in his role as Director of Pupil Personnel (DPP) as he supervises district operations including facility planning, building and grounds, communication, staffing, and safety.     

“We are excited to have Brent Allen step into the role of Assistant Superintendent of Operations,” said Superintendent Billy Parker.  “Dr. Allen has demonstrated exemplary leadership and a steadfast commitment to student success throughout his educational career as well as during his tenure as Director of Pupil Personnel. I am confident that his expanded responsibilities overseeing facility planning, staffing, and district operations will further strengthen the infrastructure and support systems of our schools.”

Allen earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.  He earned an Education Specialist degree and Rank I certification in educational leadership from Asbury University.  He holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and a Master of Arts with initial certification in social studies and a Bachelor of Arts in political science, both from the University of Kentucky.

Allen will officially begin in his new role on July 1 upon the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Dwayne Ellison who has served Scott County Schools for 26 years. 

“I am humbled and thankful to serve our community through Scott County Schools. It is an honor to work alongside so many servant leaders in a district so deeply committed to the excellence, growth, and development of every student,” Allen reflected.

Collins Named Director of Nutrition

Scott County Schools has named Kristy Collins as the new director of nutrition.  Collins is currently a culinary pathway teacher and Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructional lead at Scott County High School where she has served as a family and consumer science teacher since 2004.  

To the position Collins brings the heart of an educator in addition to her experience in the field of nutrition.  

“Kristy Collins has dedicated her career in service to Scott County Schools where she builds strong relationships with all stakeholders,” stated Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Stephanie Emmons.  “Her enthusiasm, work ethic, thoughtful attention to detail, and positive energy are unsurpassed.”  

Superintendent Billy Parker commented, “For anyone who knows Mrs. Collins, her high character and ability to work well with people across our entire community come as no surprise. To the position of nutrition director she brings proven and effective management and organizational skills and quality assurance that will be invaluable.  Kids at Scott County High School will miss her but we are so excited that she will be leading our nutrition department and serving students across the district.”

Collins holds a master’s degree in instructional leadership from Eastern Kentucky University and a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences education from the University of Kentucky.  She is also a member of the Scott County High School Class of 1998.

Having taught a generation of students a vital life skill, Collins reflected on the upcoming change, “I have absolutely loved my time in the classroom but I am looking forward to this new opportunity to support our schools and district.  I can’t wait to get started and to get to know our dedicated cafeteria teams.

Collins will officially begin in her role as director of nutrition on July 1, 2025.
