Scott County School District recently announced the names of high school students who will be submitted to the state-level 2021 Governor's Scholars Program selection committee.
The Governor's Scholars Program (GSP) is a free summer enrichment program begun in 1983 and held for five weeks at three college campuses across the state each summer. Students who are chosen for the program study interesting topics in non-traditional settings while having the opportunity to engage in service, listen to speakers, join clubs, and cultivate their leadership and self-awareness. Students who complete the program are often eligible to receive designated scholarships from state and private colleges and universities in Kentucky.
Each of Scott County Schools’ nominees is a current-year Junior who submitted an extensive application and was selected to move forward to the next round in the process. The application required a personal essay, information about classes, grades, and standardized test scores, and explanations regarding the student’s involvement in volunteer or paid work, honors and awards, and extracurricular activities. About 2,000 applications are sent to the state each year, of which approximately 1,000 are chosen to take part in the summer program. For more information about GSP, visit: www.gsp.ky.gov
Scott County Schools congratulates our 2021 nominees and wishes them luck in the final state selection process!
