Mrs. Hetzell graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1987, with a BS in Elementary Education, all subjects grades 1-8.  Currently, she also holds a MA in Secondary Education, minors in History and Geography, and a Gifted Education Certification, grades 1-12.  She has been teaching in Scott County since 2004, at RSMS since it's opening.  Mrs. Hetzell has three children, with the youngest graduating from Scott County High School in 2011.  Experiences from life situations, like a 1972 high school graduation, spending 25 years homesteading in Eastern Kentucky, living on the Navajo Indian Reservation, are often found to be culturally/educationally pertinent in classroom discussions.
Outside interests are reflected in the history and cultures stressed in class, in the Fantasy Book Club, Arts and Crafts Club, and 2011-2012's upcoming Sewing Club.
The Arts in Humanities (Visual Art, Music, Dance, Drama) reflect the beliefs, feelings, and ideals of those sho create them.   Experiencing the arts allows one to experience time, place and/or personality.  By experiencing the arts of various cultures, students can actually gain insight into the beliefs, feelings, and ideas of those cul, tures.  Students also have the opportunity to experience how the arts can influence society through analysis of arts in their own lives and the arts of other cultures and historical periods.  Studying the historical and cultural stylistic periods in the arts offers students an opportunity to understand the world past and present, and to learn to appreciate their own cultural heritage.  Looking at the interrelationships of multiple arts disciplines (visual arts, music, dance, drama) across cultures and historical periods is the focus of humanities in the arts.
