Donovan Kerns is the Scott County Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year. He is social studies teacher at Royal Spring Middle School and was the school’s teacher of the year winner for 2020-2021.
Reflecting on his contribution as a teacher, his colleagues shared, “He takes what he has learned and goes above and beyond to apply it. He instills this growth mindset in his students. As a teacher, watching Donovan’s love for his students makes me try harder to improve relationships, reach out, and learn more.”
Principal Amanda Wands agrees, “Donovan Kerns is a devoted teacher who serves our school with pride. We are thankful for his commitment to his students and are inspired by his passion for our school. He is a cherished member of the RSMS family.”
Superintendent-Elect Billy Parker presented the award this week during a staff meeting at Royal Spring, along with family, friends, and loved ones in attendance to celebrate this achievement. The dedicated entourage included his mother Donna, herself a retired Scott County Schools teacher.
Kerns received an engraved award and monetary gift thanks to our partners at Whitaker Bank. He will be the middle school nominee for Scott County Schools as part of the Kentucky Teacher of the Year award program.
