Student Council Elections at PHC

PHC Student Council

Students in the JAG program at Phoenix Horizon Community learned about the political process and voting procedures in preparation for state primary election day.

Students learned the basic premise and ideals of political parties, learned the protocol for registering to vote, and covered procedures like reading ballots and operating voting booths as part of their unit of study.

“We learned how to run a campaign and how elections work,” stated student Kendra Gross.

Using the information learned during this unit, students managed their own campaigns for student council offices, complete with persuasive advertisements, as candidates shared their thoughts on important issues with fellow students.

Congratulations to Phoenix Horizon Student Council leaders.  Bobby Ornelas, VP of Leadership Development; Madison Todd, Historian; Kendra Gross, Reporter; Wyatt Klaber, President; Javier Cruz, VP of Civic Awareness; Vanessa Ortiz, Secretary; Erin Albin, VP of Community Service; Katlyn Gibson, VP of Community Service, Mackenzie Bowling, VP of Social Awareness; and Eva Hernandez, VP of Career Development.

No school in Scott County on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2019.  Like students at PHC, make your voices heard.  Go vote, Scott County!
