Royal Spring Middle School recently hosted Operation Preparation, a joint initiative between the Kentucky Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development. Local education and business leaders participated in this advising program for eighth grade students.
Trained community volunteers reviewed each student's Individual Learning Plan (ILP), career interest inventory and EXPLORE high school readiness results. From this data, mentors shared a conversation with students about career goals and future plans for high school and college.
Mentors answered questions about their own occupation and education. Professionals included nurses, school administrators, photographers, teachers and mechanics. They advised students on courses to take during high school and areas of study which might be helpful to reach college and career goals.
The event was organized by Angela Fraley, Counselor at Royal Spring Middle School.
