SCS Receives Sustained Excellence Award
Scott County Schools received the 2019 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence award this week in recognition of efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs for the district.
“I applaud the 2019 ENERGY STAR Award Winners,” said EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation Bill Wehrum. “Their innovation and leadership enhance America’s economic competitiveness. Reducing costly energy waste improves air quality and public health while protecting the environment.”
With concentrated effort on energy management, the district has reduced energy costs by more than $5 million since 2010. All schools in the district have earned the distinguished ENERGY STAR award for five consecutive years making Scott County the first in the state to achieve this milestone.
“I am proud of the efforts of our staff and students and thankful for the support of the Scott County Board of Education,” commented Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hub. “Together we have initiated important projects to save money, support conservation, and provide a safe learning environment in our schools.”
Scott County Schools utilizes state of the art technology in new construction projects, including the use of geothermal HVAC systems and automated HVAC controls. The district energy team educates students and staff about the importance of energy management and engages the community in energy savings initiatives. Student leaders take an active role in the energy management teams at their schools.
The ENERGY STAR program recognizes businesses and organizations that demonstrate superior leadership, innovation, and commitment to environmental protection through energy efficiency. Scott County Schools won the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence award in both 2016 and 2018 and received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award in 2013 and 2015.
