Work Session Wrap-up

The Scott County Board of Education held a Work Session on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.  Superintendent Patricia Putty introduced the study of John Maxwell’s 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork as an extension of training received by the Board in January.   Members reviewed Law #1, The Law of Significance, which encourages the sharing of ideas to magnify strengths of each member of a team.

The Board continued revision of the Board Operating Principles/Ground Rules.  These guidelines focus on student achievement and success and highlight the importance of effective communication, shared decision making and collaboration among members of the board, community and district staff.  The final version of the Scott County School Board Operating Principles/Ground Rules can be found here:  /userfiles/1523/BOARD%20OPERATING%20PRINCIPLES.pdf.

The Scott County Board of Education also discussed the efforts of a work group which is gathering information to be used in decision making for the boundary lines of Lemons Mills Elementary School.  The group plans to present recommendations for community comment prior to action taken by the Board.

As part of the Board’s communication plan, members further refined a draft version of district policies and procedures which address meeting logistics and the importance of public comment during meetings of the Scott County Board of Education.  Because it is of the highest priority for Scott County Schools, the Board also received an update on school safety and a recent transportation audit which highlighted many strengths of Scott County Schools Department of Transportation.

The Board discussed further training opportunities and possible agenda items for the Board meeting scheduled for February 12, 2013 at 5:30pm at the Central Office Complex.
