Michelle Nichols - New Principal at Elkhorn Crossing School

Elkhorn Crossing School will begin the new school year with a familiar face as principal. Michelle Nichols will assume the post of principal after serving as assistant principal to both Elkhorn Crossing School and Scott County High School. Ms. Nichols is replacing Dr. Francis O’Hara as leader of Scott County’s innovative Career and Technical School.  
Ms. Nichols’ background as a career and technical teacher and an administrator at the middle school, high school, and career and technical school made her the clear choice for the selection committee. Ms. Nichols’ experience with project-based instruction and her work with career-based organizations will allow her to continue on with the incredible work that has been completed by the students, teachers, staff and administration of Elkhorn Crossing School. 
“It is an honor to be selected as the principal of Elkhorn Crossing School.” Ms. Nichols said. “I am so excited to work with such a high caliber of faculty, staff and scholars who exemplify dedication, passion and innovative spirit. I look forward to partnering with Scott County High School and the community as we make ECS the pinnacle of success in career and technical education.”

Teachers at Elkhorn Crossing School are both excited and impressed with the selection of Ms. Nichols. Kim Kyle, math teacher at ECS states:  “Michelle is an exemplary educator.  I am so pleased she will be the principal of Elkhorn Crossing School and confident that her leadership will strengthen our programs into the future.”    
 “Michelle Nichols brings a passion for education, an enthusiasm for students, and a wealth of knowledge about career and technical education to Elkhorn Crossing School.  We are excited to have her as the leader in our building to help continue the innovative approach to learning and teaching in our district,” added Amanda Burrows, English teacher in the Pre-Engineering village at Elkhorn Crossing School.
“As acting assistant principal for the past year, Ms. Nichols has shown everyone at ECS her outstanding leadership skills and her ability to form positive relationships with students, parents, and staff members. She is a believer in the concept of integrating curriculum, project based instruction, and innovative teaching techniques that makes ECS so special. Ms. Nichols has a focused vision for ECS and will continue to raise the bar for the students, staff and school. I am looking forward to the bright future of ECS. “ added Sarah Orear, teacher at Elkhorn Crossing School.
“Ms. Nichols truly understands the importance of students integrating Career Technical and Core Content courses. Michelle has the unique skill set to continue the work started at ECS and has a great relationship with the students and staff at both ECS and SCHS. She is the perfect choice for this unique school,” adds Director of Secondary Education, Chip Southworth
Nichols and her husband Greg have lived in Georgetown for the past 8 years. They have a four year old daughter, Emily Kate. Nichols earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky, master’s degree in Business and Marketing Secondary Education with teaching certification also from the University of Kentucky, and a second master’s degree and Rank I in Educational Leadership with principal certification from Eastern Kentucky University.
