In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of last night’s Board of Education meeting. This is being forwarded to all employees and parents/community via e-communications. This is merely a summary and not to be perceived as official board minutes.
At the Scott County Board of Education meeting held on May 28, 2013, members voted to approve job descriptions for Certified Interventionist and Classified Interventionist as well as to approve the Fiscal Year 2014 Salary Schedule, Pay Date Schedule, and Accounts Payable Schedule. Director of Finance Randy Cutright shared minor revisions of the Fiscal Year 2014 Tentative Working Budget, presented in detail on May 14th. The Tentative Working Budget was approved by the Scott County Board of Education and will be presented to the Kentucky Department of Education by the May 30th deadline. The budget includes a 1% salary increase for employees of Scott County Schools. The Final Working Budget must be presented for Board review and approval by September 30, 2013.
Board members discussed an upcoming public forum to allow community input on the building of a second high school. Members decided to take no action at present but instead to schedule this important meeting for August or September. The Board felt this timeframe would better accommodate busy summer schedules and allow more community involvement. Future steps, in addition to the public forum, include design of an educational program with input from administrators and teachers at Scott County High School. The educational program for a new high school is an important first step before taking bids and review of architectural schematics.
Superintendent Patricia Putty shared the Superintendent Report which included training dates for consideration by members of the Scott County Board of Education. Putty also announced that the video of Scott County High School graduation is available for viewing from the district website, www.scott.kyschools.us. First made available last year, the posting of the graduation video allows family members to share this exciting time. The Board also discussed the number in attendance during graduation ceremonies this year noting that it would be a good idea to consider facilities that could accommodate additional seating in future years.
The next meeting of the Scott County Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex.
