Intermediate Academic Celebration

academic celebration

Attention Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Students

Lemons Mill is doing things a little differently this year for Intermediate Academic Celebrations.  Instead of each student being recognized individually during the assembly, we will celebrate our accomplishments as a grade level, and spend more time spotlighting student learning.  We hope you will join us in recognizing and celebrating our students for this nine weeks on Wednesday, November 9th at 1:00.

A note from Mrs. Mays regarding this change:

Dear Parents,

For the first time in history, Lemons Mill Elementary has a Student Council.  We have Student Council Officers elected by fifth grade students and also Student Representatives for each homeroom in grades 3 – 5.  The change in the Academic Celebration was one of the first topics students gave input on with Lemons Mill administration.  Many students wanted this change and felt like what we had done in the past was not motivating to our students.  This idea was inspired by them, so I am hoping they enjoy the celebration and leave more motivated to learn.

Students earning Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance will still be celebrated individually with PAW tags within their homeroom/villages on Wednesday with their homeroom teacher.  The students will also be recognized in the Georgetown News Graphic for their accomplishments (this is new as well).  During the Academic Celebration, they will be asked to stand and celebrated by their peers for their accomplishments.  The main portion of the Academic Celebration will feature student work across the grades levels.  The assembly will be led by our students, the Student Council Officers.   Overall, I think this change will give more attention to student learning and be more meaningful to our students than the assembly style we have had at LME in the past.  I am excited to support our students in wanting this change.

I hope you find value in why we are trying something different. Our staff plans to reflect on this change and get input from our students.  If you have ideas regarding this change, I would also love to hear from you.  You can reach out to me at lori.mays@scott.kyschools.us.

Thank you for being a part of the Lemons Mill Family!
