Board Summary 9-3-15

In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of the Scott County Board of Education work session on September 3, 2015. This is being forwarded to all employees and parents/community via e-communications. This is merely a summary and not to be perceived as official board minutes.


The Scott County Board of Education met on September 3, 2015 at 6:30pm at Georgetown Middle School.  After conducting the required tax hearing, the board approved the proposed tax levy rate of 49 cents per $100 valuation for real estate and 49 cents per $100 valuation for personal property for school year 2015-2016.  The board also approved a 2016 motor vehicle and watercraft property tax rate of 54.8 centers per $100 of assessed value. 


Members of the board continued discussion of committed funds.  Items for discussion included maintenance needs at Garth Elementary School and proposed paving projects.  The categories were identified as required by June 30, 2015 but it remains the discretion of the board to review and revise the dollar amount per spending category.   


During the Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Putty announced the upcoming retirement of Ann Brock, Assistant to the Superintendent.  Pam Campbell has been hired to fill this position and was in attendance at this meeting.   


The board received a report from Director of Facilities Mike Luscher regarding the Great Crossing High School site preparation package.  The architect and construction manager are working closely with the bidding companies to ensure accuracy of the paperwork submitted making certain the lowest bidder can complete the job for the price quoted.  This item will appear on the agenda for September 10, 2015 when more detailed information will be available.  Next, members of the Scott County Board of Education approved KSBA policies 03.13214 and 03.23214.


The Scott County Board of Education will conduct two public forums to provide community input regarding the search for the next Superintendent for Scott County Schools.  The first meeting was held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 7:00pm at Georgetown Middle School.  The second is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 7:00pm at Scott County High School. 


A regular board meeting will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 6:30pm at Georgetown Middle School.
