Board Summary

In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of the special-called Scott County Board of Education meeting on September 25, 2014. This is being forwarded to all employees and parents/community via e-communications. This is merely a summary and not to be perceived as official board minutes.

During the September 25, 2014 meeting of the Scott County Board of Education, members approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Principal Certification Program between Georgetown College and Scott County Schools.  A second MOU between Scott County Schools and the Kentucky Science Center was also approved.  This partnership will provide science camp for students in grades 2-5 during fall break, October 6-10.  The camps are open to any Scott County student and will be hosted at Lemons Mill Elementary School. Both memorandums were approved pending review and approval of the board attorney.

Director of Finance Randy Cutright presented the 2015 Working Budget for Scott County Schools.  The working budget is an estimate of expected income and expenses for fiscal year 2015.  Members reviewed the projected budget, enrollment, taxes, and state funding through a mathematical computation referred to as SEEK.  Mr. Cutright also discussed changes in tax assessment and how this impacts the SEEK formula for a growth district like Scott County.  As he explained, when assessments increase and all other factors remain the same, SEEK funding decreases.

After noting that Average Daily Attendance (ADA) continues to increase for Scott County Schools, Mr. Cutright discussed general fund receipts and expenditures as well as special revenue funds, district activity funds, and restricted funds.  A total 2015 General Fund working budget of $56,780,274.50 was approved unanimously by the Board.  After the approval, Board members offered appreciation to Mr. Cutright and staff for the thorough presentation and responsible stewardship.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Patricia Putty and members of the Scott County Board of Education scheduled a special-called meeting for Monday, September 29, 2014 at 5:00 pm to discuss the educational model and program of the second high school.  The meeting will be held at the Great Crossing Office Complex.
