Anne Mason Elementary has been a very generous family since we opened nine years ago. Whether we are raising money for United Way, collecting jars of peanut butter for Haiti, collecting food for the AMEN house or giving time and talent, AME has become known for our philanthropic spirit. This year that spirit will focus on something that is closer to home. For three years now, Anne Mason Elementary Family Resource has provided a weekend Backpack Snacks feeding program to aid in the fight against hunger. This program continues to grow each year with our family sending home food to over 90 children weekly. Several of you have aided the program in a variety of ways in the past. You have given to the program financially, bought food, or given your time to pack the bags, and without each of those contributions, this program would not be as successful as it is! Because our economy is still recovering and money is still an issue for so many of our families, we have had quite a rise in the need for this program. This is where we are calling on our own AME families to help out!
During the week of January 30 through February 3, 2012, we will be having a Food Drive called “LOADS OF LOVE” to help support the Backpack Snack program. This collection will be a classroom competition between grade levels, and the classroom with the most donations (primary and intermediate winners each) will win a “Sock Hop” Dance during school! We will also crown a Prince and Princess AME to the individual student who brings in the most donations overall!! Thank You in advance for your support to help fight hunger here at Anne Mason!! J
