Board Meeting Summary

In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of the Scott County Board of Education meeting on June 11, 2015. This is being forwarded to all employees and parents/community via e-communications. This is merely a summary and not to be perceived as official board minutes.

The June 11, 2015 meeting of the Scott County Board of Education was convened at 6:30pm at Georgetown Middle School.  Board members shared discussion with Response to Intervention (RtI) Coordinator Robin Taylor regarding the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores which included areas of progress for each school.  Principal Frank Howatt discussed testing measures and student academic growth at Scott County High School.  Principal Joretta Crowe shared updated data for Cardinal Academy regarding graduation rates, a decrease in discipline referrals, and increase in attendance. 

In other business, board members approved consent items for common carriers, donations, fees, fundraisers, and items for surplus as presented.  The board also approved application for both the Farm to School grant and the Deutscher-Stem grant before approving Memorandum of Agreements for Billie Travis and Shannon Gullett with the Kentucky Department of Education for the 2015-2016 school year.  During a special-called meeting of the school district finance corporation, the board approved an easement on the Taylor Farm with AT&T with the widening of US 460 for payment of $4500.00 to the district. Next board members approved the start and end time schedule for schools for the 2015-2016 school year. 

The Scott County Board of Education approved the Design and Development drawings for Great Crossing High School scheduled to open for 700 students in Phase I in August 2017.  There was further discussion of the school media center and a request for a one page summary of the school design to be posted on the district website.

The board approved KHSAA membership dues and changed the collection company for the Department of Nutrition to Envision Payment Solutions pending approval by the Board Attorney.  In other business, the board renewed bids with Kroger and Wal-Mart, authorized signors on school activity accounts, and approved carry over on school activity accounts.     The board also approved a contract with Scott County Physical Therapy to provide athletic trainer services for 2015-2016.  With board approval, Bluegrass Business Health will provide drug testing services for 2015-2016.  The Scott County Board of Education rejected all bids for the Employee Fidelity Bond and approved the increase in current coverage with Liberty Mutual to $200,000 with a $5,000 deductible for an additional premium of $250.  This will cover all employees except school treasurers.  Members approved the School Treasurer’s Bond of $200,000 for each school treasurer (bookkeeper).

After the first reading of policies 03.1321 and 03.2321 with changes regarding the use of district-owned vehicles, members of the Scott County Board of Education received the monthly Financial Statement, approved current bills, and heard the district Personnel and Field Trip reports. Topics of discussion during the board dialogue included principal positions at Anne Mason Elementary and Royal Spring Middle schools as well as upcoming discussion of salaries for the athletic department. There was a Special Called Board Meeting on June 15, 2015 for purposes of board training.  There will be another Special Called Board Meeting on June 18, 2015 at 6:30pm at Georgetown Middle School.
