Important PTO Meeting on Radon

Parents and Guardians,
I would like to make you aware of an important PTO meeting scheduled for Wednesday January 14, at 630 PM. This is an informative meeting due to the recent testing of radon at Garth. We will have representatives from our Scott County School Board office as well as representatives from the Health Department. You may have seen or read the articles during the last couple of weeks in our local paper. Radon is a gas that is released from the ground and is found in many buildings and homes. The long term exposure of radon could cause health concerns. I want to assure you that Scott County Schools has also been very active in the testing of Garth and wants to provide a Healthy and Safe learning environment for all students. In all the testing that was completed we found that most of Garth is at or below the expectable level of 4 pCi/L.  The testing did show a couple of areas of our building that have elevated levels of radon. The next step by the school system is to bid out the work for mitigation of the radon out of the building. The most important item to us and you is your child and their safety. As the school system works on mitigation of the radon we will move students out of those areas of the building as we get the level of radon at or below 4 pCi/L. Please try to make this important meeting so we can educate and explain in more detail the work that will be taking place. As always we will be striving to meet the educational needs of our students.
Together, we are GARTH!
