The Student Transportation Association of Kentucky recently awarded its premiere honor to Scott County Schools Department of Transportation bus maintenance team. The Outstanding Maintenance Department award recognizes employee dedication and untiring service to pupil transportation.
Bobby Gillespie is a veteran in this department with 36 years of service to Scott County Schools. His team includes Wayne Doud, James Stub McGlone, and Jim Bob McGlone. Together they have more than 80 years of experience in driving and maintaining school buses and include two former school district transportation directors. These skilled mechanics maintain a fleet of 95 buses that travel more than a million miles per year. They realize the significance of their work and take this responsibility very seriously.
“Our #1 priority is to take care of our kids. We have to make sure they get to school and home safe every day.” Gillespie stated.
The Student Transportation Association of Kentucky presents this award each year at an annual conference. The winner is selected by a panel of professionals in the field of student transportation representing districts throughout the state. This is the first time Scott County has received this award.
