We are pleased with our state test (CATS) scores this year. While our overall score dropped slightly, from a 95.2 to 94.5, we are still well above our goal of 87.2. We have three scores over the state goal of 100 – Reading (100.7), Math (105), and Science (109). We are also pleased that our writing portfolio scores reached into the 90’s for the first time, at 93. Of course, there are a few areas we need to examine to see what we can do to improve. Our biggest puzzle, is perhaps Social Studies, which dropped from 98 to 88. We are looking into our new Social Studies series which we started using last year to see if that may be a cause. Also, Arts and Humanities dropped 8 points, and Practical Living/vocational Studies and Writing On-Demand dropped 6 points.
To make things relative to the test used in the past, our total academic index (the summative score of all areas) was statistically adjusted to become 94.5. Our nonadjusted academic index was 98.4, compared to 99.0 last year. Again, we are not pleased with the drop, but considering we are just 1.6 points from the ultimate goal of 100, we are confident that we will continue to improve reach that goal in the near future.
