Board Summary

The Scott County Board of Education held a work session on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Superintendent Patricia Putty, members of the board, and Director of Student Services Steve Hill discussed the calendar for the 2015-2016 school year.  As part of this important process, representatives from each school met to consider several options and to develop a draft calendar for board consideration.  A survey was also conducted allowing all employees of Scott County School input.  Board Member Jennifer Holbert represented the Scott County Board of Education on the calendar committee.  As a point of reminder, state law requires Scott County Schools build in 19 make-up days into the calendar.  This is the most number of days missed due to inclement weather in recent years.  Spring Break could be an option for make-up days in the event of severe winter weather.  Members of the board will vote on the 2015-2016 calendar at its meeting on December 9, 2014. Members also discussed the Scott County Board of Education meeting schedule for 2015 and other agenda items for next week’s meeting to be held at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex.

As a follow-up to the November meeting, Architect Mike Smith with Sherman, Carter, Barnhart shared refined building schematics for the second high school.  The presentation incorporated feedback generated at the November meeting.   During the planning stages, careful consideration has been given to accommodate future growth and develop a community or campus feel with the existing Elkhorn Crossing facility.  In keeping with the agreed timeline, a master plan will be considered by the Scott County Board of Education in January 2015.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Putty congratulated Western and Lemons Mill Elementary Schools, both recent recipients of the Energy Star award.  With the addition of these two facilities, all Scott County schools are now Energy Star winners.  This makes Scott County Schools the first district of its size to achieve this worthy accomplishment.  Mrs. Putty gave members of the board a schedule of important upcoming events which include the Scott County High School choral performance at the Singletary Center on Dec. 8 at 7:00pm.  A reception to honor Becky Sams and Roger Ward will be held at 5:00pm at Central Office on Dec. 9.
