Georgetown Middle School Principal Rhonda Schornick announces that GMS will now be open during the summer for families to access class schedules in preparation for the start of school. Students who pay the $25 student fee can pick up class schedules and student planners anytime August 1-2 between the hours of 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00-3:00pm. The office will also be open on August 3 from 9:00am-12:00pm.
Camp Helps Ease Transition for Sixth Grade Students
Camp GMS provides an opportunity for incoming sixth grade students to acclimate to middle school, locate classes and practice locker combinations before the first day of middle school. This year the camp is scheduled for July 30-31 and August 1 from 8:30am-12:00pm at Georgetown Middle School. The Georgetown Middle School Youth Service Center has offered this valuable learning opportunity for sixth grade students at GMS for nearly 15 years. Each year 60-70 students attend camp GMS.
Youth Service Center Coordinator Lee Dawson believes the advantage of Camp GMS is two-fold. “Students learn to make their way through the building, practice with locker combinations and get to know their teachers. This makes students more comfortable coming to new school. Secondly the camp helps parents feel more confident and reassured when students share what they experienced during camp which results in a greater calm for families.”
