Teacher Biography
After graduating from Boyle County High School, I earned a B.A. in Biology and Environmental Studies from Maryville College, a M.S. in Biology from Murray State University, and a M.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Kentucky. In the 10 years between graduating from college and starting to teach, I worked in ecosystem, community, and population ecological research. I used my background in biogeochemistry and zoology to address questions about what sorts of things control the dynamic nature of ecosystems. I also worked as a professional taxonomist and analytical chemist. I have conducted field research in Alabama, Alaska, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Canada, and Iceland. Outside of academics, I have a five-year-old daughter (Millie) and three-year-old son (Kurt). My wife (Rebecca) is a wetland/soil scientist. I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities as hobbies like sport and traditional rock climbing, cycling, long-distance running, sprint triathlons, and backpacking. I am also an avid dual sport motorcyclist.
