Joy Kinney Lusby has been named principal of Great Crossing High School. Lusby is currently an assistant principal at Scott County High School serving in this role since 2016. Before coming to Scott County, Lusby was both an associate and assistant principal at Oldham County High School and served as a special education teacher at North Oldham Middle School, Buckner Alternative High School, Northeast Middle School, and Jeffersontown High School.
“Joy Lusby has proven herself to be an outstanding leader, especially in the areas of communication, collaboration, and culture,” stated Dr. Kevin Hub, Superintendent of Scott County Schools. “She brings a wealth of skills and experience to the role of principal. We are excited about the potential for student success at Great Crossing High School under her leadership.”
Maurice Chappell, Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning, agrees. “I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Joy Lusby. I know that she will establish high expectations for classroom learning while making sure Great Crossing prepares students for success in college and the workplace.”
Lusby is confident in her ability to develop a positive school culture and climate at GCHS through transparency, effective communication, and relationship building. When asked about the opportunity to design a school from the ground up, she was quick to emphasize the importance of working closely with leaders at Scott County High School, Elkhorn Crossing School, and Cardinal Academy to ensure a smooth transition. Lusby values the perspective of students and will seek student input often as an important measure of success.
"I am honored to serve Scott County and the students of GCHS. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am beyond blessed," Lusby reflected on her selection.
Joy Lusby will officially begin her tenure as principal at Great Crossing High School this summer in preparation for the opening of the school in August 2019. Lusby lives in Georgetown with her husband David and his three daughters, Morgan, Emily, and Lauren.
Congratulations to the new leader of the Great Crossing Warhawks, Joy Lusby!
