Fall Parties at LME pumpkin

It’s time for Fall Parties here at LME!  On Tuesday, October 31st your child will be celebrating in his or her classroom during their designated party time.  Your child is welcome to wear a costume to school on this day. We do have a few guidelines to ensure safety and fun for all involved.

  • Students may choose to dress up as a favorite book character, athlete, super hero or occupation of their choice.
  • Make sure the costume is comfortable; although there is a party at the end of the day, instruction will still take place as usual until party time.
  • Please no masks.
  • Please no face paint.
  • Please no weapons.

Please check information from your child’s teacher regarding specifics for each grade level party.  We look forward to celebrating with our students! Please remember that if students are signed out before 2:35pm it does count against their attendance.  We encourage ALL students to stay at school for the full day.  J

LME Attendance Through the Holidays Holidays

Dear Lemons Mill Family,

Are you planning a family trip for the holidays? As you think about your arrangements, we want to stress the importance of sending your child to school every day possible. Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after the winter holiday as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. It’s time to break that cycle. We know that just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. Put simply, too many absences at any age can affect a student’s chances for academic success and eventually for graduation.

Open Enrollment 2017-2018 Open Enrollment Icon
Celebrating attendance at LME LME

It's a great day to be a Lemons Mill Lion!

After three months of school, Lemons Mill Elementary has a cumulative attendance rate of  97.14%.  This is 0.12% higher than this time last year!  Our goal for the 2016-2017 school year is 97% attendance rate.  The number of students who are on track to miss 10% of attendance is down 4% from last year.

Keep up the great work!    We love that our students and staff want to be at LME!

Stay tuned for information coming home later this week in regards to our special winter incentive for perfect attendance!

SBDM Cancellation lemmie

The November SBDM Meeting has been cancelled for tonight.  The next meeting will be December 13, 2016.

Intermediate Academic Celebration academic celebration

Attention Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Students

Lemons Mill is doing things a little differently this year for Intermediate Academic Celebrations.  Instead of each student being recognized individually during the assembly, we will celebrate our accomplishments as a grade level, and spend more time spotlighting student learning.  We hope you will join us in recognizing and celebrating our students for this nine weeks on Wednesday, November 9th at 1:00.

A note from Mrs. Mays regarding this change:

Dear Parents,

Winter Chorus Program at LME LME

When Santa's favorite Christmas album is ruined, the North Pole gang decides to introduce Santa to their music with the help of iPods, playlists, headsets and docking stations! The elves are enjoying their Motown tunes, while the reindeer kick up their country western heels. Crystal Snowflake is heading for Broadway and the toy soldiers are a-rockin' and a-rollin'. Join in the holiday hi-tech fun and discover what ends up on Santa's holiday playlist!

Please join us for this rollicking, rocking performance at Lemons Mill Elementary presented by the Lemons Mill Chorus. The Lemons Mill Chorus is made up of 100 students, grades 3-5, that meet after school for rehearsals.

Performances are December 8 at 8:30am, 1:30pm and 7:00pm.

Coffee and Conversation Coffee & Conversation

At the PTA meeting this week, we had an awesome discussion on helping our kids have a “growth mindset.”  Here’s a short clip from Class Dojo that illustrates the idea in case you aren’t familiar:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ

We’d like to continue the conversation about how LME is promoting growth mindset and what parents can do to support this philosophy throughout the year with “Coffee (and tea) and Conversation” mornings.  Our first morning chat will be on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:15 am in the Community Room.  We’d like to issue a special invitation to members of our parent community who work second shift and are unable to join us for evening activities – we hope you can come on Tuesday!

Sincerely,

PTA Reflections

Each year National PTA holds their PTA Reflections program throughout the United States.  Lemons Mill Elementary is a proud participant in Reflections again this year and encourages our students to participate.

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate   There are 6 different categories that students may participate in: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.  Students may submit an entry in more than one category; however, we do encourage quality of work over quantity of work as entries are judged by experts in the category's field.

The 2016-2017 theme is "What Is Your Story?" and all entries should address this theme.  The deadline for entries and required forms to be turned in to Lemons Mill is October 17th.  Please check your entry carefully and be sure that all required items are included to prevent disqualification

Updated Arrival Information for LME Parent Drop-off

Dear LME Families,

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30th, we are extending our drop-off circle by four additional cars during morning arrival.  We are asking, that when unloading, the first car in each group pull all the way to the front parking stick that we have moved around the circle.  We are adding additional adult supervision to the circle to assist students along the walk way.

Please have your child prepared for exiting the car once the car is parked in designated spot.  It would help tremendously if each child had their backpack on and belongings gathered.   Our goal is that your child will open and close their own car door to exit on the right side of the car.  They will then walk behind the yellow paint to enter the building, grab breakfast if desired, and then begin instruction at 7:35AM.

If you are interested in assisting with morning arrival, and on the Scott County approved volunteer list, please contact Principal, Lori Beth Mays.

Thank you for your help in this matter!

Sincerely,

Lori Beth Mays, Principal

Here’s how it works.

We will keep track of daily attendance in our classrooms January 28th - February 18th. Each student who receives perfect attendance (no absences, tardies or early check-outs) during these dates will be eligible to win the honor of being introduced on the court at the UK Women’s Basketball game vs. Missouri on Thursday, February 25th. All eligible students will have their name thrown into a hat, with the winners picked at random. One winner will be chosen from each grade.

Spring Book Fair at Lemons Mill

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.

We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives and giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books. Like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.

Today's Topic: Family Fun Night

Dear LME Families,

On Tuesday, September 24th, Lemons Mill Elementary will host its first Family Fun Night.  This will be a time for families to get a glimpse of their child's school day and have fun at the same time.  Families will tour throughout the school and classrooms to uncover the ancient mystery and art of hieroglyphics.

The night will consist of an activity where you must "Crack the Code".  Visit the classroom, village squares, Book Fair and more to find and collect clues to solve the mysterious message.  The event will be from 5:00 - 6:00 PM for grades K-2 and from 6:00 - 7:00 PM for grades 3-5.

Please make sure to mark your calendar.

You won't want to miss this event!

Sincerely,

Lori Beth Mays, Principal

Board Meeting Summary 08-06-13
Today's Topic: Tips for Morning Arrival

Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

What a wonderful first two days of school!  I have found great joy in watching the students and staff interact throughout the building.  The students are becoming familiar with their new teachers, new classrooms, and the new building.  We are all working hard to teach, model, and practice behaviors that are going to help us have a successful school year.

We did have some great questions asked this morning regarding Parent Drop-off for the morning arrival.  I would like to share a few tips with you now to help tomorrow run even more smoothly.

  1. Drop-off time begins at 7:20 AM and doors will close at 7:40 AM.  If you arrive after 7:40 AM, you will need to park in the front parking lot (next to flag) and bring your child into the front office in order to sign them in and for them to receive a Tardy Slip.  It is necessary for a parent/guardian to sign the students in if they are tardy.
  2. If possible, please have your child seated on the passenger side of your car. This will provide more safety precaution by allowing them to exit the car onto the walkway into the building.
  3. Children may begin getting out of the car as long as the car is parked within the inner circle, allowing the child to step onto the sidewalk at the curb of the building.
  4. We are unable to open the car door for everyone (no matter how much we would love to).  Please have your child get out of the car on their own, unless there is an extenuating circumstance.

We look forward to seeing your child tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Lori Beth Mays, Principal

The Adventure Begins

Back to school a success for Scott County Schools.

Today's Topic: First Day of School

Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

Tomorrow is the big day… we are anxiously awaiting our first day with students and cannot wait for this journey to begin.  I wanted to remind you of a couple of things to help our first day run a bit more smoothly.

Arrival:  Doors will open Tuesday morning at 7:15 AM.  Please note other than the first day, doors will open at 7:20 AM.

  • If you plan to drop your child/children off, you will want to turn down the drive for the Parent Drop-Off Circle.  Our Head Custodian, Mr. Cam, will be directing traffic at that intersection.
  • If you plan to walk your child into the building you will want to park and enter by the front of the building.  (Doors and Parking Lot closest to flag pole.)

Car Tags:  If you are planning to pick up your child using the Parent Drop-off/Pick-up Circle, you will need to have a Car Tag (a number representing your child/children).  If you were unable to register for a Car Tag at Open House, please do so tomorrow morning.  We will have a table within the Media Center where you can register.  To ensure student safety we will not be able to allow any children to be picked up without a Car Tag.

Dismissal will begin at 2:35 PM.  Please make sure your Car Tags are visible.

Our Journey Begins Now,

Lori Beth Mays, Principal

Today's Topic: Stuff the Bus

Dear Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

I hope you and your families are enjoying the final days of summer.  I wanted to take a moment to let you know about an exciting event coming up known as “Stuff the Bus.”  This event is being facilitated by the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers (FRYSC) of Scott County, and it will be held on Friday, July 26th, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Georgetown Wal-Mart.  The goal is to “stuff the bus” which will be parked on the sidewalk between the two entrances of Wal-mart with school supplies for students in need. The FRYSC Coordinators and volunteers will be collecting items such as pencils, pens, markers/colored pencils, crayons, pencil boxes/bags, erasers, glue, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, 3-ring binders, notebooks, 5-subject notebooks, zip binders, composition books,  backpacks (mesh), underwear (all sizes), socks, and shoes.  Once the event is over, the bus will take all of the supplies to a central location, and supplies will be divided between the participating FRYSC centers in the district.  A fire truck will also be present at the event for entertainment for your kids.  If you have any interest in purchasing school supplies for students in need, you are invited to take part in this event.  Any donation will be much appreciated.

Please remember to email questions to me at lori.mays@scott.kyschools.us . I will be answering questions through weekly messages using our E-communications system and on the school’s website.

Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

Most of the staff members have been able to tour the building at this point, and I must say that I have enjoyed watching their faces light up with excitement. Today's Topic: Summer Reading

Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

There is no a better way to spend the summer than with your favorite book!  Sign your whole family up for the summer reading program at the Scott County Public Library.  Set a reading goal and read, read, read.  Sometime during the month of July, be sure to turn reading logs into the public library.  We will be able to see how many Lemons Mill Elementary students read their summer away!

There is also a traveling trophy that is presented to the school with the highest percentage of readers turning in reading logs, so make sure to list your name and LME on the reading log!  I challenge each of you to involve the whole family in this reading fun.  Grandparents, parents, students, siblings… there is no age limit when it comes to finding enjoyment in a good book.  Let everyone know that Lemons Mill Elementary means “reading” business!

Today's Topic: Walking to School

Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

During the Meet and Greet last month, I received several questions from families regarding the development of sidewalks and students walking to and from Lemons Mill.  I want to communicate that we will have sidewalks on the school property.  However, the sidewalks maintained by the school district will stop at the property line of Lemons Mill and will not continue to the surrounding neighborhood.  Sidewalks adjoining Harmony subdivision are under the jurisdiction of the owner of this property.  We will begin the school year with students arriving by bus or car.  We will revisit this situation only after we have established safe passage and eliminated all safety concerns for our students.  In order to ensure student safety, there will be no students permitted to walk to Lemons Mill Elementary until that time.

Please remember to email questions to me at lori.mays@scott.kyschools.us . I will be answering questions through weekly messages using our E-communications system and on the school’s website.

Sincerely,

Lori Beth Mays, Principal
