I have been teaching middle school science for 18 years.  I taught 10 years at Anderson County Middle School, 1 year at Seton Catholic, and 1 year at Boyle County Middle School. I have also taught at the college level.  While in college I had a professor that tricked me into teaching his Botany Lab.  When I say tricked into teaching I really mean tricked into teaching.  Dr. Eversmeyer (Dr. E) asked me if I would be his Lab TA.  He told me that my responsibilities would be to set up and clean up each lab.  As any college student I needed a job in efforts to support myself, so I took the job.  I had no idea that I would actually be teaching the lab.  Dr. E had me report to the lab an hour ahead of time.  I set up the lab and he came in to check on things.  Students began arriving as I was adding the finishing touches.  Dr. E came over to me and said that everything looked great and then he said "I will see you in a couple of hours."  I could feel my stomach in my throat. Dr. E left me by myself to TEACH the lab!!!  For the first time in my life I actually experienced what it means when people use the phrase "Cold Turkey." Dr. E told me numerous times that I needed to take education classes so that I could become a teacher.  I kept responding to him with  "I can not teach.  I will never be a teacher." Famous last words never say never. This was my first teaching experience and actually what I thought would be my last.   My goal was to be a Research Scientist.  My goal became a reality in May of 1994. I was a Scientist at a Pharmacology Toxicology Research Lab for 3 years. As a scientist  I performed experiments using radioactivity.  The purpose of my experiments were to collect data on the effects of pesticides on our environment with a focus on soil analysis.  It was a fascinating  job, but can not compare to the excitement I endure through teaching middle school science.

I have three girls: MacKenzie (14), Kelsie (10), and Isabella (7).  Having three girls keeps me extremely busy. We enjoyed our summer break outside soaking up the rays in many ways. We went to Hilton Head Island to have fun in the sun at the beach.
