Standards Project

Please choose one of the following as your final project.  You MAY work in pairs.

Oral Presentation –Choose a topic from class and prepare a presentation for the class.  The presentation must be around three minutes in length and must include at least two visual aids.

Health related service project –Choose a community service related to a topic from class.  You must volunteer at least five hours to the service.  If you work in pairs, both of you must volunteer five hours each.  Afterward, you must give a two minute oral presentation or a one page typed report (size 12 font, single spaced).  In your report, please make sure you explain how you benefitted from this service and how the people you were helping also benefitted.  You must also submit the printed name, signature and phone number of the person supervising your project.  DO NOT volunteer at an animal shelter or pick up trash on the side of the road.

Exercise Video -Make an 8-10 minute long exercise video which includes a variety of aerobic, anaerobic and flexibility exercises.  You must include warm-up, work out, and a cool down exercises incorporating the FITT formula in some way.  You can use Windows Movie Maker, iMovie or something that will convert to Windows.  Do not use your phone to make a video if you don’t have the means to convert it.

Documentary  -Make a 5-10 minute long documentary on one of the topics discussed in class.  You can use Windows Movie Maker, PhotoStory, iMovie or something that will convert to Windows.  Topic must be approved by the teacher in advance.

Research Study -Research a topic and write out the results in research paper format with documentation of all work and sources (20 points off if sources are not cited within the paper AND reference page attached at the end).  Paper should be 2-3 typed pages and may include charts or graphs (single spaced, size 12 font). Research topic must be approved by the teacher in advance.

Survey –Conduct a survey of at least 50 people and write out the results in research paper format with documentation of all work (20 points off survey results are not attached).  Paper should be 2-3 typed pages and may include charts or graphs (single spaced, size 12 font).  Survey topic must be approved by the teacher in advance.

Web Page  -Design a webpage that would be helpful for teens or adults regarding one of the topics we discuss in class.  You may include as many links as you wish, but must include at least one link and reference to a reputable website such as the CDC or Medical Health Institute.  All information must be fact based and useful.  You must cite your sources (pictures, graphs, information, etc.)

Make a Public Service Announcement  -Record a commercial with a specific public service message based on one of the topics we discuss in class (ex.: ‘Just say no”).  Topic should be approved by the teacher in advance.  The commercial must be at least two minutes in length.  You can use Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, PhotoStory or something that will convert to Windows.  Do not use your phone to make a video if you don’t have the means to convert it.

Write and perform an original song  -Write a song based on one of the topics we discuss in class.  Topic and lyrics must be approved by the teacher in advance.  Song must have at least three verses and a chorus.  You must perform the song for the class (with or without accompaniment).  You may use the tune/music from another song if you want.

Write and perform an original drama –Write a drama based on one of the topics discussed in class.  Topic must be approved by me in advance.  Drama may utilize multiple characters and must be around three minutes in duration.  You must submit the typed script to me and perform the drama for full credit.  You may also choose to record it and submit it electronically.  You can use Windows Movie Maker, or something that will convert to Windows.  Do not use your phone to make a video if you don’t have the means to convert it.

Comic Strip -Create a comic strip that has at least ten frames based on one or more of the standards covered in class.  This can be hand drawn (neatly) or computer generated.  Color or shading is necessary in almost all cases.

Brochure/Pamphlet -Choose a topic from class and create a brochure or pamphlet from the perspective of a community resource that is available to help.  For example, make a brochure for a local substance abuse clinic that can be given to students in our school.

 

This project is worth 100 points, and there will be ten points off for each day late.  This is an AT HOME project.  You will NOT be given class time to work on it.
