Montag bis Freitag, 8. - 12. Mai 2017

Our week's are coming to an end with only two weeks left! AP testing has wrapped up today, and EOC exams begin next week. I worked a bit on grades today, and have my gradebook updated, but not IC. Please keep an eye on grades when they are updated and let me know if any concerns.

Students will turn in textbooks at the end of next week, and finals will be giving on Wednesday and Thursday, May 24-25.

This week, we've been wrapping up some loose ends still in all classes, hitting some important readings, and grammar topics. Students will begin reviewing for the final next week.

Montag-Freitag, 1. Mai bis 5. Mai 2017

We've had a wonderful week in German-land at SCHS. German 1 students have been working with free time activities. German 2 students have focused on some social issues in various parts of Germany. German 3 has been doing some review, while AP students have been cramming for the AP Exam (which was today).

We're down to 15 more school days, of which, I'm only here for 10 (I'm with the seniors the last week of school). Let's finish this year out strong!

Montag-Freitag, 24. April bis 28. April 2017

It's been quite a busy week as we are getting ever so closer to the end of the school year. We've been wrapping up several loose ends in all classes, and will continue before I final units.

The AP German Exam is next Friday, with 7 AP students taking the exam. We've focused our time on a mock exam practice this week, and I will have those graded and feedback given next week.

Today (Friday) was club day, so many students missed class to attend clubs.

German Club met today for our final meeting of the year. Today we were missing several students, but we had a photo Schnitzeljagd (scavenger hunt) focused on German adjectives. It was quite fun!

Only 20 more school days to go! Let's finish strong!

Montag-Freitag, 17. bis 21. April 2017

This week certainly has been interesting, but the students have all held in there and stayed strong!

German 1 - Students finished up their unit on the environment with a focus on recycling. Thursday, they created environment "memes" in German, and researched new articles in German about environmental issues in Germany. Today both classes went outside to help clean up the school grounds. Combined, we collected 25 lbs of trash, of which 5 lbs can be recycled! Thanks to them for their community service!

German 2 - We finished up our unit on enviromental issues and the solutions to those issues. Students gave presentations today on their chosen issues, and I was amazed at how great they all did!

German 3 - Our week has been a bit up and down with large amounts of students absent Wednesday and Friday, so I've been filling in a variety of supplemental activities for them.

AP German - Our AP Exam prep continues. We completed our cultural comparison speaking practice, and look forward to our practice AP Exam next week.

Freitag, 14. Oktober 2016

Today was the last day of the 1st term. All grades have been entered and IC is up to date!

German 1 - Students took CA1 today, and we conferenced on grades, as well as completed an article reading on the changing of languages. Some confusion exists regarding Q7-8-9 grades. As indicated on the German American Project assignment sheet, the project was worth 15 points, and they would be spread out over Q7-8-9 grades. If a student scored 13.5/15 on the project, IC will show 10 points for Quiz 8/9, and 3.5 for Quiz 7. (this 9-week term is actually only 8 weeks long)

German 2 - Students took CA1 today, and we read an artile on changing of languages.

German 3 and AP - Students took CA1 today.

We then took a class poll to determine the words that we most need to focus on for the quiz and common assessment tomorrow.

German 3 - Students went over the questions from page 76 and we had enough time to work through Interview 1 on page 77.

AP German - Students read the first few chapters from Sonnenallee as we continue our discussion on a divided Germany.

Students then re-listened to it to ensure they had full understanding. We also read Fuer Dich on page 66.

German 3 and AP - We started class with a trip out to the PG storage containers, and then upon returning, students watched an episode of Sendung mit der Maus.

In German, each location uses a different preposition. We then checked out the ADAC website, and students had time to search Reise.de to find their dream vacation.

German 3 - Students completed the Allerlei activity on pages 76-79 in the text. First completing a survey on their home, and neighbors, and then reading three interviews of people in Germany.

Welcome back from Fall Break! Hope everyone had a nice week away from school.

German 1 - We did a brief review/warm up to review telling time, and then students were introduced to school vocabulary. At the end, we played a little relay game to reinforce the vocab a bit more.

German 2 - Students completed a little review/warm up activity to refresh the German a bit, and then I told the students about a strange thing that happened to me on Sunday (all in German) when I ran into the President of UK at Starbucks, then realized he left some papers there, and my attempt to return the papers to him. I was impressed how well they followed along!

German 3 and AP - Along the lines of my strange story, I had student write what they would do if they were in my situation. They turned these sentences in at the end of class (using the conjunction case - If I were to have found the papers, I would have...).

Both classes did great, and then we watched some of Sendung mit der Maus to kick off the weekend early! (the topic was wasps and electro-magnetic motors).

German 1 - Students completed a little worksheet to continue practicing numbers (as I quickly noticed we needed to spend some more time on that after learning to tell time). Students asked three other sts what their phone number was, and copied it down, then shared with me at the end of class to see if I could understand. It went very well!

German 3 and AP - Students had had trouble with the third video from last week, so we re-watched it, pausing occasionally to clarify some things in the interviews, as well as going over the questions.

Montag-Freitag, 12.-16. September 2016

As this was my big conference week, and I was out three days, I've got not too much to write.  Students were incredibly well behaved with the sub, and I am thankful for that! We ended the week watching Treffpunkt Berlin (soap opera that goes along with our text), and students completing some questions to go along with it. That will count as the quiz grade.

I am a bit behind on entering grades, as I've been out of town, but anticipate to have them mostly updated soon.

A bit of a strange week, but students have generally done the work!

Grades are updated and posted. Students receive progress reports on Monday.

Alex spent 5 years in the Marines, and is now a Deputy Sheriff for the San Bernadino County Sheriff's Department in California. He spoke about his life in the fast lane, and even how he's used German after graduating! Thanks Alex for coming by today!

4th Hour - Students received back quizzes and work from recent classes. We went over these assignments.

5th Hour - Students received back quizzes and papers from recent assignments, and we went over the work from yesterday.
