Board Meeting Summary

In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of the Scott County Board of Education meeting on July 8, 2014. This is being forwarded to all employees and parents/community via e-communications. This is merely a summary and not to be perceived as official board minutes.

Upon approval of the minutes from the July 1, 2014 meeting of the Scott County Board of Education, Attorney Bob Chenoweth informed members of the board of his plans to send a letter to the Commissioner of Education officially communicating the newly redrawn board member voting districts.  The new voting boundaries equalize the number of community members residing in each of the five board member represented districts.

In other business, the board approved consent items in the following categories: donations, fundraisers, grants, surplus, and contracts/agreements.  In addition, the Scott County Board of Education approved bids from Wal-Mart and Kroger for general school and instructional supplies.  Student fees and start and end times for the 2014-2015 school year were also approved, please see times listed below.

Upon second reading, members of the board approved policy updates and also discussed recommended revisions to employee contracts.  Next, the board approved the 2014-2015 Student Discipline Code of Acceptable Behavior & Discipline.  The District Facilities Plan Hearing Report was approved.  The District Facilities plan is an important body of work developed by the Scott County Local Planning Committee.

In other business, members approved the BG#1 for roof renovations a Scott County Middle School in addition to BG#4 forms and change orders for Lemons Mill Elementary School. The board also approved the construction management selection process.  Superintendent Patricia Putty, Director of Facilities Mike Luscher, Director of Maintenance Zan Rexroat, and Board Member Joanna Fryman will oversee this process.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Mrs. Putty shared information about numerous professional development opportunities taking place this summer.  Superintendent Putty also offered compliments to the custodial and maintenance staff.  They are ahead of schedule and working with diligence to ready each building for the start of school.  The Superintendent and members of the Scott County Board of Education reflected on the impressive number of accomplishments made in a very short time.  These include the decision to move forward on a second high school, the architect selection process for the new school, the district facility plan, and the newly drawn voting boundary lines.  Superintendent Putty also commended members of the board for the time and attention devoted to schools during the recent school/board dialogues.
