The safety of our students and staff is the top priority of Scott County Schools. We take all threats and rumors of threats seriously and investigate each to ensure the safety of our schools.
Late last night, rumors were shared with school administrators that someone had made threats toward students at the high school. School and district administrators immediately began working with law enforcement officials to investigate. Overnight, law enforcement was able to track down the source of this rumor to someone out-of-state nine hours away where police confirmed this person has no access to weapons or transportation to Kentucky. Rumors stemmed from emotional statements made online.
In order to reassure students, staff, and families and to provide a heightened sense of awareness to safety, law enforcement increased their presence on the high school campus.
We understand that in the age of social media, rumors multiply and spread very quickly. However, on behalf of Scott County Schools, I want to thank those that brought the rumors to our attention. Additionally, I want to personally thank Chief of Police Bosse, the Georgetown Police Department, and our school administrators for their continued collaboration and support in keeping the safety of our students and staff the top priority.
