What is a "STC"?

An STC is a "School Technology Coordinator",  located at each school, who work diligently to assist faculty members in enhancing learning through technology.  An STC enhances content learning while strengthening the technology skills of students, teachers and staff.   These specialists collaborate with other team members and have clear goals and strategies for integrating technology in instruction.  Their administrative responsibilities include trouble-shooting, coordinating teams, overseeing budgets and coordinating training activities.

A few STC responsibilities:

  •  Collaboration with teachers in implementing technology into the curriculum. In partnerships, the STC and a teacher will work towards integrating technology hardware in a relevant way that strengthens content and assists teacher in meeting state and national standards for content and technology.

  • Structure technology education of students, teachers and staff. Though the STC may not directly conduct all training, lab work or classes regarding computer use, they should coordinate instruction to meet technology proficiency goals. Additional instruction of parents or community members may also strengthen technology skills of students.

  • Provide troubleshooting.  STC's are available for troubleshooting of software and hardware for teachers and serve as a liaison with district technology team in ensuring technical problems are resolved. As coordinator of training in software, the STC is expected to provide software guidance as needed.

  • Identify trends in software, curriculum, teaching strategies and new resources.

  • Create, maintain and oversee integration of technology plan for school.

  • Create learning resources for teachers, staff and students. These may include web sites, interactive programs, databases, etc that support teachers in integrating technology. Ideally, teachers will be guided and encouraged in developing their own resources and the STC supports these efforts, providing additional support as needed.

  • Coordinate school budget for computer resources including hardware, software, learning resources and training needs.

  • Collaborate on monetary resources for school. An STC is expected to collaborate with others in school/district to establish grant funding, corporate sponsorships, community partnerships to enhance computer resources.

  • Recommend and, in some cases, purchase hardware, software and related resources.
