At the high school level, we encourage students to begin taking ownership of their giftedness potential. A host of advanced and AP courses are available for students to accelerate their learning and earn college credits in math, social studies, science, language arts, foreign languages, music, and art. In addition, students gifted in creativity and leadership should consider electing to join one of the Project-Based Learning villages of the Elkhorn Crossing School, where collaborative work and professional presentation skills are greatly emphasized. The secondary schools gifted teacher is also available for personal consultations with students seeking advice and help with applications for the various Governor’s Schools programs, ACT and SAT preparation, college and scholarship applications, and applications to Kentucky’s premier STEM school, the Gatton Academy. In addition, students can expect to have a small number of pull-out experiences for things like speakers, book clubs, or field trips. Finally, our gifted theater students can gain real-life experience on- and off-stage with our excellent yearly plays and musicals, while vocal music gifted students can take choral music, are pulled from class for special lessons, and can participate in competitive choirs within and beyond our state. We encourage all parents and students to visit Scott County High School’s Gifted & Talented webpage to discover the vast array of exciting opportunities they can connect with to make their high school experience rich, diverse, and a time of extensive growth.
