Advisory- Issued for a variety of weather situations that will impact travel but is not life threatening.
Watch- Conditions are favorable for development of a storm in and close to the watch area.
Warning- A storm is imminent or is occurring at this time. Tornadoes, Severe Thunderstorms, High Winds, Snow and Ice are examples of severe weather.
Tornado Watch- Conditions are such that tornadoes may occur: however, no tornado has been sighted.
Tornado Warning- A tornado has been sighted: take cover immediately!
Note: Keep in mind that a tornado warning can be called for one area of the county and may not affect the rest of the county at all. For example consider that a tornado may be sighted in northern Scott County and the sun may be shining in Georgetown. Common sense is going to be the deciding factor in this type of situation. As with all weather situations slow down and drive cautiously leaving plenty of room between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
