Dear 5th Grade Parents,
The Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council at Royal Spring Middle School recently met to discuss Summit learning. After much input from students, teachers, and parents over several weeks, the council decided not to offer Summit learning at the sixth grade level next year. Over the past few months, several information sessions about Summit learning have been offered with some parents expressing interest in this program for incoming sixth grade students. We thought it important to notify you of this change as soon as possible.
The council decided to expand Summit learning to a seventh grade community during the 2017-2018 school year. We will continue to offer Summit to eighth grade students next year as well. At this time, our council felt a slow and thoughtful expansion of Summit would be best for our students and school.
I want to thank parents who attended the information nights and provided input over the last several weeks. Please know that this decision was not made lightly. RSMS has a strong tradition of providing all students an excellent education. We will continue to work together as a team to make sure all students at RSMS are provided a rigorous educational program.
We will be in contact soon with more information about back to school events to help your student transition to middle school. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
John Noll, Principal
