As Superintendent, I am passionate about full-day kindergarten. My first goal coming to this district was to implement full-day kindergarten for Scott County. Members of our community understand the value and importance of full-day kindergarten. I think we agree the greatest gift we can give our students is a strong educational foundation supported by full-day kindergarten.
Over the past 6 ½ years we have worked very hard to overcome the space and financial barriers to implement full-day kindergarten. The opening of Lemons Mill has provided much needed relief for school facilities. Full-day kindergarten has remained a top priority as we have worked through financial limitations. During the school board work session on November 6th I presented a plan to implement full-day kindergarten in Scott County as early as the fall of 2015.
Our school board was very supportive and excited to place the approval of full-day kindergarten on the agenda for Tuesday, November 11th. Just like you, I know what a monumental difference this will make for our young students, schools, and district. I am trying really hard to contain my enthusiasm but I couldn’t wait to share this information with our community. Hopefully we will all be able to officially celebrate Tuesday evening!
