Today's Topic: Staff Update

Lemons Mill Elementary Family,

This is such an exciting time…Lemons Mill Elementary will open its doors to students and families in less than a month! Most of the staff members have been able to tour the building at this point, and I must say that I have enjoyed watching their faces light up with excitement. We cannot wait for the building to be complete and for students to enjoy the amazing collaborative design. The teachers are already hard at work thinking of ways to ensure student learning. I would like to share with you some of our staff members at this time.

Kindergarten:

Jessica McClintock will be teaching kindergarten this year at Lemons Mill Elementary. This will be Jessica’s eighth year of teaching kindergarten. She began her teaching career at Mary Todd Elementary in Lexington before moving back home to Georgetown, where she taught at Western Elementary the past two years. Jessica graduated in 2005 from the University of Kentucky and completed her Masters at Georgetown College in Special Education. She and her husband, Rob, live in Georgetown and have a two-year old son, Jacob.

1st Grade:

Kendra Curtis will be teaching 1st grade this year at Lemons Mill. This will be her tenth year teaching 1st grade. She taught four years in Fayette County at Northern Elementary and five years at Eastern Elementary here in Scott County. Kendra graduated from the University of Kentucky and received her Masters from Georgetown College. She and her husband, Matt resides in Georgetown. They have two boys, named Collier and Tate. Collier will be a kindergartner at Lemons Mill this fall.

Morganne Vance will also be joining the 1st grade team. Morganne has taught in Scott County for the past three years. She gained experience in teaching at Eastern Elementary while working with kindergarten and 1st grade students. Morganne attended Eastern Kentucky University and is currently working on her Masters through the University of the Cumberlands. She and her husband, Josh, live in Georgetown.

2nd Grade:

Kara Harris will be one of our 2nd grade teachers at LME this year. This will be her eleventh year teaching. She spent four years teaching kindergarten at Western Elementary in Scott County and is excited to return to her first love of teaching 2nd grade. Kara graduated with her Bachelors, Masters, and Rank I from Eastern Kentucky University and spent six years teaching 2nd grade at Model Laboratory School in Richmond. She and her husband, Brian, live in Georgetown and have a two-year old daughter named Layne.

Jessi Turner will also join the 2nd grade team at Lemons Mill. Jessi recently completed her student teaching experience in Scott County, with placements at Eastern Elementary and Scott County Middle School. During those placements she was known as Miss Tevis. Jessi and her newlywed husband, Michael just returned from their honeymoon. She is excited to begin her first year of teaching in a place she has always called home. Jessi graduated from Morehead State University with dual certification in Elementary and Special Education.

3rd Grade:

Kelsey Davis joins the Lemons Mill staff as a third grade teacher. She spent the past two years teaching 3rd grade at Eastern Elementary. She graduated from Georgetown College in 2011 and will pursue her Master’s Degree at University of the Cumberlands with a focus in reading and writing. Kelsey lives in Georgetown with her husband Brad.

Katie Price will also join the 3rd grade team at Lemons Mill Elementary. This will be Katie’s thirteenth year teaching and her second year in Scott County. She has her Masters from the University of Illinois at Springfield and is Nationally Board Certified in the area of Middle Childhood Generalist. She lives in Georgetown with her husband, Nathaniel, and their twin six-year olds Madison and Carson. Her children will begin first grade at Lemons Mill this fall.

4th Grade:

Jamie Hockensmith will be joining the 4th grade team at Lemons Mill Elementary. This will be her tenth year teaching in Scott County, where nine of those years were spent at Eastern Elementary. Jamie graduated from Georgetown College in 2003 and completed her Masters and Rank I in Instructional Leadership and Superintendency through Eastern Kentucky University. She and her husband, Chad, reside in Georgetown and have two daughters, Seaton and Micah. Seaton will be a first grader at Lemons Mill this fall.

Tabetha Housekeeper will also be teaching 4th grade this year at Lemons Mill. Tabetha has taught six of her last eight years at Anne Mason Elementary here in Scott County. Two years were spent teaching in Clark County. She received both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Georgetown College. Tabetha and her husband, Shan, live in Georgetown and have three children. Their twin boys, Zaden and Zyler, will be attending kindergarten at Lemons Mill this fall and Zimrie will be 18 months old.

5th Grade:

Chase Kirkpatrick will be teaching 5th grade at Lemons Mill this year. This will be his third year teaching 5th grade. He graduated from Georgetown College in 2011. Chase completed his student teaching experience and his past two years of teaching at Eastern Elementary here in Scott County. Chase has begun working towards his Master’s through the Teacher Leader Program at Asbury University, and has recently moved to Georgetown this summer.

Abby Snyder will also join the 5th grade team at Lemons Mill Elementary. This will be Abby’s tenth year teaching. She graduated from Georgetown College and began her career in Franklin County where she taught for two years before moving back to Scott County. She has spent the last seven years teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade at Garth Elementary. Abby completed her Master’s in Instructional Leadership through Eastern Kentucky University and earned her National Board Certification in 2010. She and her husband, Stuart, live in Georgetown with their three children Clark, Sara Kate, and Shepard.

LBD Teacher:

Kim Hinton, one of our LBD teachers, is a native of Western Kentucky and has been teaching since 2004. Kim graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Learning and Behavior Disorders and then attended the University of Louisville where she received her Master’s Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Assistive Technology. She taught for six years in Hopkins County, Kentucky at Hanson Elementary and then moved to the area in 2010 where she taught for three years at Paris Elementary. She and her husband, Joe, have two children, Chloe and Barrett. Kim is excited to be a part of the Lemons Mill family.

Destine Rogers, will also join our Special Education team. Destine is from Stanton, KY and this will be her fourth year in education. Destine has taught in Menifee and Fleming County and has experience in both elementary and secondary education. Destine studied at University of the Cumberlands and has a four year old son named Kaden. They are currently looking for a home in Georgetown.

Library Media Specialist:

Melanie Bishop will be the Library Media Specialist at Lemons Mill this year. This will be the beginning of her fourteenth year in education. She spent last year at Eastern Elementary as the Early Certified Interventionist. Previously, she was the librarian at two private schools in Lexington. Melanie received her Elementary Education Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Kentucky. She and her husband, Jeff, live in Georgetown and are the parents of two college students, Mary and Josh.

Physical Education:

Sara Jill Gooch will be the physical education teacher at Lemons Mill Elementary. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education Degree. Sara Jill earned a double major in kinesiology and health promotion with a teacher certification. She student taught at Tates Creek High School and Stonewall Elementary in Fayette County. After getting married in July to her fiancé Chris, her new name will be Mrs. Handy. Sara Jill is very excited to begin her teaching career in Scott County.

Guidance Specialist:

Shannon Brehm is excited to be serving as Guidance Specialist at Lemons Mill. Shannon has been a School Psychologist in Scott County for three years, and she previously served as a Family Resource Center Coordinator in Jessamine County. She has been married for seven years, and her husband, Jim, is an elementary school principal. They are both very passionate about education and helping children to believe in themselves. Shannon feels blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of the Lemons Mill family.
