The Scott County Board of Education approved the school calendar for 2013-2014 during the December meeting, available now to parents and community members for planning purposes as we look forward to the New Year. As approved, the first day for students in Scott County is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, 2013. The calendar also includes a full week fall break scheduled for October 7-11, 2013.
A calendar committee, consisting of members from every school, spent weeks considering all viable options for the school calendar, respectful of the rules which govern the school year calendar. A survey of optional calendars was distributed among district staff members with nearly 500 responses. The final recommendation presented to the board is representative of the wishes of the majority of teachers and staff members across the district who responded to the survey. Nearly 65% of respondents were in favor of a full week break in October. Approximately 60% favored the early start date, August 1 for teachers and August 6 for students.
Also at the Board of Education meeting, student leaders from the Scott County High School chapter of the Future Farmers of America shared the many accomplishments of the club this year under the direction of teachers Regina Fritsch, Nathan Sewell and Lindsay Wayne. Most recently, the FFA organized a canned food drive at SCHS which resulted in more than 14,000 tons of food donated to the local AMEN House.
