Our Preschool Program Philosophy

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

Scott County Schools believes a better education today means a better tomorrow. The early years of development are a very important part of a child's education and an important part of Scott County Schools. Our programs are based on sound principles of theory and research in child development. We realize that an educational program for young children must incorporate comprehensive services in order to meet the needs of children and families, and we endeavor to facilitate interagency efforts in our community. We believe that services for children and families must be responsive and of top quality, meeting the highest standards for early childhood practice. Our preschool program and curriculum are provided and measured by the following objectives:

-  To help each child develop a positive self-concept and attitude toward school

-  To help each child grow socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically

-  To provide opportunities for each child's individual success

-  To encourage creativity, questioning, and independent discovery

-  To provide a variety of active, concrete, "hands on" learning opportunities matched to individual abilities and learning styles

-  To foster cooperation between parents, community and program personnel as an integral part of the program

-  To encourage a smooth transition between home/school and program settings

-  To employ sound principles of theory and research in early childhood education practice
