The Eastern Elementary Performing Arts Club (PAC) performed its annual winter program on Thursday, December 8. The “PAC Holiday Special” was conceived and co-written by members of PAC along with the guidance of director, Mrs. Alyssa Curry, and included scenes with favorite holiday characters such as The Grinch, Charlie Brown, Rudolph and the Conductor of the Polar Express. Musical numbers featured a variety of soloists, ensembles and a special dance routine was choreographed by Mrs. Shelby Durham, a kindergarten teacher at Eastern.
Eastern's Performing Arts Club is an auditioned group of 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students that provides professional instructional in the music theatre elements of voice, drama and dance. Members of PAC are exposed to a variety of music genres through preparation of a musical production. On occasion, guest instructors lead rehearsals and special clinics in choreography and other areas as needed. Students are chosen to be members of PAC on the following criteria: audition (talent: dramatic reading/singing), behavior/responsibility demonstrated (teacher recommendation).
Upcoming performances include singing the National Anthem for the Lexington Legends in April and the musical Alice in Wonderland JR in May. Alice in Wonderland JR will be the thirteenth musical produced in PAC’s twelve-year history. Past productions include The Lion King Experience, Annie JR, Junie B. Jones Jingle Bells Batman Smells, and The Little Mermaid JR.
