Denney Named Interim Principal at Garth

Denney Stock

Veteran educator Ed Denney will extend his time at Garth Elementary School through the end of the school year.  The decision to fill the school’s top position on an interim basis was made by Garth’s Site Based Decision Making council on Jan. 18.

“Mr. Denney’s strengths match perfectly with what Garth needs most.  Moving forward, his leadership and experience will bring stability with minimal disruption to student learning,” commented Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hub.

Denney retired in 2016 after serving as principal at Eastern Elementary School for 17 years.  At Eastern, Denney left a legacy of outstanding student achievement and strong working relationships with teachers and staff.  He started his career as a physical education teacher in 1986 serving at both Great Crossing and Western Elementary Schools until being named principal in 1999.

Denney received his Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education (grades K-12) from Eastern Kentucky University where he also earned a Master of Arts in Education and Rank I certification in educational leadership.  His wife Kelly is a teacher at Lemons Mill Elementary.  The two have raised their family in Georgetown.  Both Corey and Christopher Denney are Scott County High School graduates.  Carlee is currently a junior at SCHS.

Denney was honored when asked to serve as acting, and now interim, principal at Garth.  “My focus is to work collectively with staff and parents to make Garth Elementary School the best it can be for every child,” Denney said.  Gathering input from all stakeholders is important to him.  Currently he is working to schedule grade level meetings with teachers; he plans to meet with parents in the coming weeks.

Some people have been a little surprised to see Eastern’s beloved former principal in his new home, especially the Eastern Elementary School Academic Team as they arrived at Garth for a match this week.
