Suzy Armishaw is the new Principal at historic Garth Elementary School. Armishaw comes to Garth with 22 years of experience in education serving as an elementary school teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal, most recently in Edmond, Oklahoma. Armishaw received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and a Masters degree in Elementary Education with certification in Administration from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
“Mrs. Armishaw has proven experience as a strong instructional leader and we will all benefit from her expertise,” commented Matt Thompson, Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning.
Armishaw expresses her passion for education, “I am a firm believer that all children can learn. Children need love, support, a positive environment, encouragement, character building and high expectations set before them. School should be a warm and friendly place where students feel safe and successful. They should know that it is okay to make mistakes but that they must learn from those mistakes and strive to not make the same mistake twice. The expectations set before children should teach them to help others, encourage safety, respect relationships, and own their behavior”
Armishaw will spend the summer meeting the dedicated faculty and staff of Garth elementary to build a climate of mutual trust and respect. She is eager to learn about the highly regarded traditions at Garth. For Armishaw, service in education is a tradition of its own as she follows in the footsteps of both her grandmother and great aunt who were also school principals.
Armishaw and her two daughters join her husband who serves as CEO for the Blue Grass Council of Boy Scouts of America.
