Standout Olivia Gallagher cruised to an easy victory in singles play while Grace Gardner and Lauren Moore rallied from behind to best powerhouse Lexington Catholic and finish runner-up in the doubles competition. The Scott County team collected 13 wins to advance to state tournament play on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
“This is a historic season for our girls tennis program,” stated Athletic Director DT Wells. “We are sending a record number of players to the state tournament this year.” Tennis team members include: Carson Ayres, RSMS; Carlee Denney, SCHS; Olivia Gallagher, RSMS; Grace Gardner, SC9th; Raven Jones, GMS; Lauren Moore, SCHS; Megan Moore, RSMS; and Jordyn Salyers, SCMS. From the boys tennis team, Samuel Jones qualified for competition at the state level.
A love of tennis can last a lifetime which is evident from the increasing number of adults that play the sport in our community. To share their passion, the SCHS team will visit local elementary students this week where they will talk about the importance of hard work and persistence both in the classroom and on the tennis court. Best of luck to the team on the road to a first-ever state tennis title!
